with Mousa AlNana | ph. Aidan O'Neill |  filmed by Hollie Miller + Craig Scott

Reassémblage is a collaboration between Syrian artist Mousa AlNana, based in Glasgow, and myself.

We are exploring how recognition could transform into an invisible cage, constraining personal freedom and functioning as a controlling strategy. This work utilises the art of tattooing and its sound as main elements, in addition to visual and multisensory methods, addressing themes of scarring and stigmas.

The video shows Mousa marking himself with the word 'refugee' in Arabic: لاجئ.

The work touches on concepts of displacement, detachment, and addresses trauma, discrimination, and the complexity of labelling migrants and refugees, asking what it takes to break free from those frames and labels
